Water in the Basement
by Dan Trilk
Woke up to a mesmerizing sound
Of gently lapping water all around
Dreaming I was in a little boat
Little did I know my stuff was all afloat
Photo books and journals in a plastic bin
Somehow the memories let the water rush right in
And I’m hoping I don’t get electrocuted
Raw sewage in the toy room, the office is polluted
Water in the basement
I can barely face it
Why’d I ever even go to bed?
Shoulda listened to the wise words the weatherman said
Water in the basement
Gonna need carpet replacement
Calculating all the repairs
Called the insurance company, they don’t seem to care
My plans, well they all went to hell
Was take the family to Wisconsin Dells
Now I’m slipping, sweating lugging around the shop vac
Just the kinda thing give a man a heart attack
Water in the basement
I can barely face it
I’ll be down in the dungeon all day long
Singing and a screaming this god forsaken song
Water in the basement
Gonna need carpet replacement
It’s a sorry state of affairs
Cut it up and haul the soaking chunks up the stairs
Don’t know how we ended up with so much shit
Now I got to rent a trailer and get rid of all of it
But that’s not the worst ‘cause I’ve been told
If we don’t dry it out right now we’ll be plagued by black mold!
Water in the basement
I can barely face it
Why’d I ever even go to bed?
Shoulda listened to the wise words the weatherman said
Water in the basement
Gonna need carpet replacement
Calculating all the repairs
Called the insurance company, they don’t seem to care
Water in the basement
I can barely face it
I’ll be down in the dungeon all day long
Singing and a screaming this god forsaken song
Water in the basement
Gonna need carpet replacement
It’s a sorry state of affairs
Cut it up and haul the soaking buggers up the stairs
Water in the basement! 4X
